THE BRIEF
H.H. Smith were awarded the project to undertake the 106 bedroom Hilton Garden Hotel at the Surf Snowdonia Adventure Parc. This followed the successful completion by H.H. Smith of the Adventure Parc’s £2.5m commercial hub buildings in July 2015 and the £2.1m Adrenaline building in August 2019. Due to tight programming the structural works were fully integrated to aid programme progress. This project was part funded by the Welsh Government.
KEY POINTS
Structural piles to the depth of 50mts had to be driven due to poor ground conditions on site. Communication and collaboration were a fundamental requirement for design purposes due to the exacting ‘brand of standards’ required by the Hilton Group to ensure these were met. All stake holders had varied requirements but agreement had to be obtained to ensure a consistent specification, design and output. Achieved BREEAM rating of Very Good.
CHALLENGES
Works surrounded the operational surfing lagoon, all catering and retail facilities, welfare area’s and camping pods which are used year round with holiday makers. The tight programme and limited access required robust planning and operational controls. Additionally the planning restrictions demanded strict adherence to agreed working hours and delivery times to limit disturbance to the local community. The majority of the works were completed during the COVID19 pandemic. The site remained open throughout and this was achieved by adopting new safe systems of work.
