July 2020 Tony Smith - Rest In Peace
It is with sadness that we advise of the recent death of Tony Smith, father of Rob, Construction Director and brother of David our Managing Director.
Tony started his working life at 15 as an apprentice at H.H. Smith in 1956, working for his father in the family business installing the then new concept of domestic central heating.
He worked in the family business for 24 years until 1979, when he decided to change tack and became landlord of The Eagle & Child with Josie his wife and family. They ran the public house for 10 years before heading for warmer climates to run the family owned holiday company in Lanzarote.
After 2 years, the pull of Prestwich and family drew them home where Tony took over managing Prestwich Glass & Glazing until his retirement.
Tony was always interested in H.H. Smith and all its affairs, enjoying the many company run events and supporting where possible business activities as clearly shown on the snagging weekend at Surf Snowdonia in 2015 – all the family ensured hand over was accomplished with determination and a smile.
He will be sorely missed.
The Funeral of Tony Smith will take place this Friday, 31st July. Because of COVID-19 regulations, only close family are invited to attend the Church and Crematorium Services however; there will be speakers outside of both for anyone who wants to listen and be present.
Also, to allow everyone to pay their last respects to him, the funeral cortage will complete a lap of the Sedgley Park Rugby clubhouse and main pitch before leaving for the service at St. Michaels RC Church in Whitefield at 1pm. Everybody is welcome at this drive past, which will take place some time after 12:15pm.
After the funeral service, all are welcome to attend a celebration at the Club, from 3pm. The bar will be open from 1pm.
Lets give him the best send off possible❤️
