Oct 2020 Time Capsule found at Manchester Jewish Museum
Whilst working on the redevelopment of Manchester Jewish Museum on Cheetham Hill Road our staff recently uncovered a time capsule which dates back to the 1870s. It was found buried within a wall cavity in the cornerstone of the historic synagogue walls. The sealed glass jar contains newspapers, old coins and synagogue papers and is believed to have been hidden soon after the synagogue was founded in 1873. Museum staff have yet to open the capsule, but are delighted with the find and look forward to exhibiting it in their collection (which comprises of more than 31 000 objects) when the museum reopens next spring.
