August 2020 Final touches to Former West Derby Carnegie Library

Andrew Carnegie would be delighted to see that Lister Steps, Liverpool City Council, The Henby Trust, The Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust and The Heritage Lottery Fund have had his vision to bring this wonderful building back to life for the benefit of others.

Much of the original architecture, after restoration, can now be seen interspersed with state of the art features. Oak shelving which is over 100 years old, gleams, the surrounding ceramic tiling, both internally and externally, shines, and the 4.5mt diameter glass domed roof light floods the building with light.

Externally, the landscaping is now being planted and soft play area’s feature around the nursery. The emergency external slide takes centre stage asking to be used. Maybe we will all get to try it!
