HH Smith & Sons is fully committed to training & developing employee’s skills at all levels and maintain all operatives’ qualifications & training up to the required standards.

Aside from ongoing Health & Safety Training HH Smith has an active training program for new and refresher training which ensures all employees have the necessary skills to complete task safely and efficiently on site, which in turn is beneficial for the Company, Clients and Employees.

The Company invests in trade qualifications and professional development, as well as providing work placements for young adults of school age where appropriate. We currently have 8 young adults going through our CITB approved training scheme.

The following is a summary of training which company employees have attended or attending.

General Awareness Training (Asbestos & Manual)

All HH Smith Site Operatives have attended Manual Handling & Asbestos Awareness Training between March – July 2010. All new employees in future will attend similar awareness courses.

CSCS H&S Test

All HH Smith site operatives have passed the CSCS H&S Test in the last 2 years.
It is the company aim for all employees to have Blue or Gold Craft CSCS cards by the end of 2010.

SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)

It is essential for all Site Managers to have attended the SMSTS course. Currently all our Site Managers have attended the SMSTS course.

First Aid At works

HH Smith currently have 23 Trained First Aiders, a further 8 employees will attended the 3 day First Aid at Work course in October 2010.

NVQ Training

29 HH Smith employees completed either a Level 2 or/and a Level 3 NVQ in 2010.
A further 12 Employees have been enrolled on a NVQ course.

All HH Smith Site Managers have completed a Site Management NVQ in August 2010.

Plant CPCS/ NVQ

HH Smith has 12 employees enrolled on a CPCS NVQ course for various plant ranging from Dumpers, Telescopic Handler, Excavator and Rollers.
